Frequently Ask Questions

What cameras can you place on the jib?
You can mount almost any camera on the jib, as long as it falls within the maximum head load of 50 lbs. It’s always helpful to know in advance which camera you plan to use. Very small cameras can sometimes be too light, in which case we’ll add weight to the hot head for optimal balance. With full-size cameras, it’s best to keep the setup as streamlined as possible.

For camera control, the lens is the main factor. Broadcast ENG lenses allow full Zoom/Focus/Iris control without issues. With other lens types, control may be more limited unless additional gear is used.

How portable is a Jimmy Jib?
Jimmy Jibs are highly portable and can be assembled in nearly any location. Depending on the arm length, a fully rigged jib (without the hot head and camera) can typically be carried by 2 to 3 people from one spot to another.

Does FVA rent out jibs without an operator?
Yes—however, every jib rental must include one of our certified Jib Technicians. While we do not rent the jib completely on its own, you can choose to use your own camera operator as long as our technician is present to handle setup, balancing, safety, and proper operation of the jib system. This ensures the equipment is used correctly and maintains the highest level of safety and performance on set.
How long does it take to set up a jib?
A standard setup in an easily accessible location typically takes about 1.5 hours. However, setups in more challenging environments—such as elevated platforms, tight spaces, or unique shooting locations—may require additional time. Several factors can influence the overall setup duration, including the size of the jib arm being assembled, the distance and accessibility from the vehicle to the final jib position, and any logistical considerations specific to the site.

.How do you transport the jibs?
Jibs are typically transported in a cargo van, which allows for safe handling and quick access to all components. Whenever possible, it’s recommended to park the vehicle close to the setup area to streamline unloading and reduce setup time.

For locations with limited or challenging access—such as rooftops, remote areas, or venues with restricted vehicle entry—we can arrange alternative transportation options upon request. This may include smaller utility vehicles, specialized carts, or manual load-in solutions tailored to the site’s conditions.

If long-distance transport is required, we can also pack and secure the jib system on a standard shipping pallet for freight delivery. Whether within the United States or overseas, we can coordinate logistics to ensure the equipment arrives safely and on schedule.
